Basic Study

On the Use of Real Books in the Secondary Curriculum

The Lie: Evolution (first year)
Ken Ham

Click here to order The Lie: Evolution What is a book on evolution doing in rhetoric stage Bible? Because there are basically two worldviews present in the world: that promoted by God, the Biblical worldview, which is founded upon the truth; and that promoted by Satan since the Garden of Eden, the anti-Biblical worldview, which is founded upon the lie. Just as the Biblical worldview is dependent in every area upon its foundation, that God has created us and we owe worship and service to Him as Creator, which is the message of Genesis, the anti-Biblical worldview is dependent in every area upon its foundation, that man has created himself and we owe service to no one but ourselves, which is the message of evolution. It is necessary to understand these foundational differences in order to be effective in apologetics and arguing worldviews with others.

Creation Evangelism for the New Millenium
(first year)
Ken Ham

Click here to order Creation Evangelism for the New Millenium Once a rhetoric stage student recognizes the foundational differences between the Biblical and anti-Biblical worldview, he must go on to the next step and learn how to use that knowledge in not only defending his faith, but proactively presenting the Gospel to his neighbors and co-workers in this modern culture. This book by Ken Ham analyzes two sermons, that given by Peter in Jerusalem recorded in Acts 2, and that given by Paul in Athens recorded in Acts 17, and draws comparisons relevant to today’s culture. Required reading as a foundation for future rhetoric stage apologetics and worldview studies.

Always Ready (second year)
Dr. Greg L. Bahnsen, edited by Robert R. Booth

Click here to order Always Ready Subtitled: Directions for Defending the Faith. “The Apostle Peter instructs believers that they should be “always ready to give a defense (apologia) to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15). Dr. Greg Bahnsen was not only always ready to make such a defense, he was always ready to teach others how to prepare themselves for this essential work.” This excellent work covers the Lordship of Christ in the Realm of Knowledge, the Conditions Necessary for Apologetic Talk, Hoe to Defend the Faith, the Conditions Necessary for Apologetic Success, and Answers to Apologetic Challenges. The appendix covers a Biblical exposition of Acts 17, Paul’s sermon to the Athenians as previously studied in Creation Evangelism.

A Christian View of Men and Things (third year)
Dr. Gordon Clark

Click here to order A Christian View of Men and Things This work is slated to be studied after the others in the Basic Study because while it explains the Biblical worldview, it also introduces the study of Philosophy. It explores the philosophy of history, the philosophy of politics, ethics, science, religion, and epistemology, or the inquiry of how we know what we know. “It was a Christian view of men and things that created and sustained Western civilization. It is a Christian view of men and things that gives us truth about history, science, religion, ethics, politics, and philosophy. If men wish to have truth and civilization, they must accept the Christian view of men and things.”
