History of Western Civilization Classroom
A university course outline of Western Civilization, with brief essays highlighting major events, from antiquity through the modern era. A great place to start for a chronological overview.

The History Place
Dedicated to students, educators, and all who enjoy history, this excellent webiste is an ever-growing archive of photos, essays, and links on various topics of American and World History.

History Today
Very nice website of a magazine published in the UK, with past articles archived by era, region, and specialty (such as Military History), with many additional features. Check into the Recommended Websites page for more high-quality links.

Hyper History Online
World History outlines and historical era timelines featuring cross-referenced articles on the events and people of each era.

PBS History
Essays, overviews, photos, and teacher helps for each of the documentaries that PBS has produced on historical topics, both World and American.

That Wacky Millenium!
“Or, Stuff That Happened from 1001 C.E. to 2000 C.E.” A historical timeline, of sorts, highlighting the, well, “wacky” events that shaped our world, some well-known, and some obscure.

This Day in History
A History Channel site, one of the best of the "Today in History" type sites. Other excellent sites include:

World Cultures
“An Internet Classroom and Anthology.” Winner of numerous awards, with good reason. Click on the contents link to begin exploring, then the learning modules link to enter the historical era table of contents.

Berit's Best Sites for Children: History
Quality children’s websites. Berit’s guide contains four pages of history links specifically geared for children, all annotated and rated on a system of 1 to 5. Only 3-, 4-, and 5-rated sites make it into this guide.

B.J. Pinchbeck’s Homework Helper: History
B.J. Pinchbeck knows that these are great history links for doing homework research, because he’s a kid himself!

DK Online Children’s Encyclopedia: History

Kids’ Castle History
Kids’ Castle is the website specially created for kids by the Smithsonian Institute. The History page has feature articles and interesting trivia about American and World History topics.

World Surfari
A great site by Brian Giacoppo, age 12. Kids can take a trip to new countries through World Surfari, learn about their history, people, society; play games, and even participate in an international kids’ message board. Past World Surfari trips can also be accessed.

British History
Wow! From Prehistory through the 20th Century, if it had anything to do with Britain, you can find it here at this fantastic section of the Britannia Internet Magazine.

The History Channel
Visit online features and exhibits, take quizzes, conduct searches on historical topics, and more. Also visit History Channel International for even more World history.

The History Net
This exceptional online magazine is “where history lives on the web.” Fantastic American History content, and up-and-coming World History content, unfortunately not archived by historic period. Also visit their selection of superior internet links.

AICT Art History
Art Images for College Teaching is a royalty-free image exchange resource for the educational community, and covers the topics of Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance & Baroque, 18th-20th Century, and Non-Western Art.

Gateway to Art History
Compiled for use with the college-level art history text, Gardner’s Art Through the Ages, this site is an extensive collection of links to art works organized by period.

Periods in Art History
A university survey course that provides a good general overview of the styles, designs, and influences of the periods in art history, arranged chronologically.

Timelines of Art History
Simultaneous timelines of various world civilizations and cultures, with excellent thumbnail links to art treasures housed all over the world, well-chosen to represent a broad range of media types and design styles.

Webmuseum
An online exhibition of the artists and art of western civilization, beginning with the Gothic style through the present day. Click on the Famous Paintings collection to enter the timeline index.

World Art Treasures
The goal of this website is to promulgate the discovery and love of art, using 100,000 art history slides belonging to the Jacques- Edouard Berger Foundation.
