Veterans for
Bush - Cheney 2000

Electing George W. Bush as our President and Commander in Chief is the best hope our Armed Forces, veterans and their families have for the future of our great nation. In a few short weeks we shall have the opportunity to vote for a President who will restore the promises our country made to the men and women in uniform and to America’s veterans.

We are privileged and very excited to serve as the National Vice Chairmen for Veterans Coalitions for Bush - Cheney and feel honored to work with the many distinguished veterans who are committed to electing Governor Bush and Secretary Cheney. We all share the common purpose of ensuring that America leaves no veteran behind.

For over 225 years Americans have earned the honored title of “veteran” by honoring an obligation to serve our nation in time of war. But obligation is a two way street. America also has a reciprocal obligation to those who answer her call.

If Governor Bush is entrusted with leadership of our nation, there will be no purpose more worthy during his administration than honoring America’s reciprocal obligation to serve those who served her so well.

If Governor Bush is entrusted with stewardship over the Oval Office, he will ensure that there will be no straight line budgets proposed for veterans’ health care. We made a solemn promise to our career men and women in uniform. Serve your nation and we will provide for your health care needs. We have reneged on that promise to our military retirees over the age of 65 and it is time we make it right. Governor Bush has committed to doing so.

If Governor Bush is entrusted with the leadership of our nation, disabled veterans will not have to wait years for a decision on their claims. Nor will those decisions be wrong a third of the time. In a Bush Administration if any court takes away VA’s ability to assist veterans with their claims for disability compensation or pensions, we will be the first in line rather than the last in line to get a decision overturned.

We know we share a common purpose in our commitment to the veterans who wrote America’s proud record of defense of freedom. And we also know that we share a common purpose in our commitment to the veterans of tomorrow: the Army troops who today stand watch on the Korean DMZ; the Coast Guardsmen patrolling our coasts to intercept drug smugglers; the Air Force crews enforcing the no-fly zones over Iraq; the Marines training for the day when another victim of aggression makes that global “911” call for help; the sailors standing lonely watches on the high seas.

Governor Bush knows the commitment made by the men and women who serve in our armed forces. They raised their right hand and swore to defend our nation and our freedoms----with their lives if need be. If the American people entrust Governor Bush with stewardship over their armed forces, and the sons and daughters who bring our services to life, he will honor their commitment with one of his own. As Commander in Chief, the neglect of our armed forces will end. Our troops will have the modern weapons they need to prevail. They will get the resources they need for training. There will be “no more Task Force Smiths”. American troops will not be sent to war without the training or equipment needed to prevail.

Please join us, the many Flag and General Officers, the many NCO’s, all ranks of all the services, the men and women and the hundreds of thousands of veterans and their families in each state who have endorsed Governor Bush for President. We need your vote and we need your help to get veterans throughout our nation to vote for Governor Bush.

Sincerely,

Anthony J. Principi
