A companion to the Medieval Sourcebook, the Modern History Sourcebook provides access to primary source texts for educational purposes, and also includes links to visual and aural material.

Archiving Early America
Historic and rare newspapers from 18th century America can be viewed at this site just the way they appeared to the colonists. The next best thing to a visit to the National Archives.

Benjamin Franklin: A Documentary History
This beautiful website is also a complete and extensive online biography of the life of Benjamin Franklin. The author originally intended a seven-volume publication titled Benjamin Franklin: A Documentary History, but eventually decided to put his information and research online instead. Lucky for us! The site includes links to Franklin’s works and other historical documents at its core.

Chronology of U.S. Historical Documents
An extensive collection of the text of documents that have influenced and made U.S. History, from the Magna Charta on down.

Hypertext of American History
A university web project based on the Outline of American History from the colonial period through the modern era. Besides the outline, there are many articles, biographies, links to historical documents and other useful information. Wonderful site!

Jamestown Rediscovery
The webpage of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities Jamestown Rediscovery archaeological project. Jamestown Rediscovery is investigating the remains of 1607 Jamestown on Jamestown Island, Virginia. A comprehensive, beautiful, and informative site.

Library of Congress: Today in History
The webpage whose content changes daily. Featuring American History and other links to all over.

National Museum of American History
Part of the Smithsonian Institution, this online site for the National Museum of American History includes an American History timeline, virtual exhibitions and many other interesting areas.

Welcome to the West
The website complementing the eight-part PBS television series dedicated to researching the American West. The site provides direct access to many of the diaries, memoirs, journals, maps and archival photos that have gone into the making of the series.

Civil War Photographic Archives
A Library of Congress site. Featuring over a thousand photographs covering the Civil War, including a photographic timeline and other related topics.

History Net
The website of the National Historical Society. The majority of information is on American History, although some articles on World and Ancient History are available.



National Museum of American Art
Here at the National Museum of American Art, part of the Smithsonian Institute, you can browse online exhibits of Colonial through Contemporary Art.
