History on the Internet

This page is still under construction. In the meantime, you may find the following sites helpful:

Catholic, or Counter Reformation
“To defend itself against the Protestant movement, the Catholic Church took a number of actions known as the Catholic Reformation or Counter Reformation.” This page is from the Modern European History AP site, via the Links to the Past page.

Fox’s Book of Martyrs
Reprinted here in its most complete form, it brings to life the days when “a noble army, men and boys, the matron and the maid ... climbed the steep ascent of heaven, ’mid peril, toil, and pain.” Chapter four to the end of the book tells of the persecutions related to the Reformation. Other chapters deal with the life of Calvin, Bunyun, Wesley, and the rise of foreign missions.

Historic Church Documents
An on-line collection of the text of many documents and books written during the Reformation that are suggested reading in All Through the Ages. There are even sermons by Jonathan Edwards!

Protestant Reformation
A fairly comprehensive site by the Hanover College Department of History.

Protestant Reformation
This site is from the Modern European History AP site, via the Links to the Past page.

Reformation Europe
Part of the Modern History Sourcebook, and possibly the most complete resource on the Reformation on the Internet.

Reformation Ink
“It is our contention that the theology of the Reformation is the purest expression of Christianity on the planet. This site exists in order to make important and hard-to-find primary source Reformation documents readily accessible. This not only includes books and articles from the sixteenth century, but also works from authors who stand in the Reformation tradition.” Very nice site!

Suggest a Site
We gratefully and humbly appreciate your suggestions and comments.

Hall of Church History
Award-winning site, with reason. Comprehensive, attractive and easy to use.

Rembrandt
“Consider Rembrandt as a Bible teacher and minister of the Gospel, and his works of art as his sermons and messages.” A unique and thought-provoking exhibition of the artist and his works.

Rembrandt
Excellent overview of Rembrandt’s life and works from the outstanding WebMuseum, Paris collection.

Rembrandt van Rijn
The Rembrandt exhibit from the National Gallery of Art, with links to many of his paintings and drawings.

The sites on the left are pages with excellent historical content. The sites below are links pages, specifically chosen for the quality of pointers to other sites for further research.

Creative Impulse: The Reformation
Not as extensive as the other Creative Impulse sections, but still a good list to check into.

Medieval, Renaissance, & Reformation World
Under construction, but already a useful page that points to other internet sources. The separate section on the Reformation is not extensive, but includes links on the Counter Reformation, the Inquisition, more.
