Evidence of Creation in
Biology
The books are listed below in roughly increasing order of difficulty or
technicality; an effort has been made in each books description to indicate the
normal reading level. If any of the books become unavailable from Barnes&Noble.com for
any reason, they should be available from the Answers in
Genesis Bookstore.
If Animals Could Talk
Dr. Werner Gitt
Told from each animals perspective, this is a fascinating
description of incredible design features in a wide range of animals, all logically
pointing to a loving Creator. Written for the general junior high through adult reader.
The Eyes Have It
Dr. David Menton
This one-hour DVD presents another fascinating and beautifully-illustrated
talk by Dr. David Menton, for the general junior high through adult viewer. Magnificently
designed, the human eye is Exhibit A for creationists to declare the handiwork
of the Creator. Developed from a fascinating medical school lecture by Dr Menton, a former
professor of the year, this well-illustrated and easy-to-follow talk will open
your eyes to the incredible designing ability of our wonderful Creator! An associate
professor emeritus of anatomy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis,
Dr. Menton was awarded Professor of the Year in 1998 by his students for his
lively and interesting lectures. Dr. Menton holds a Ph.D. in cell biology from Brown
University.
Body by Design
Dr. Allen Gillen
Body by Design defines the basic anatomy and physiology in each of 11 body
systems from a creational viewpoint. Every chapter examines different organs and
structures giving evidence for theistic design. Focus sections that highlight the
interwoven complexity between the body systems are also included. Students are challenged
to think through the evidence -- the facts as we know them today -- and to consider the
statistical likelihood of macroevolution. The end result is an effective, interwoven
presentation of anatomy, physiology, and creation. For the general junior high through
adult reader.
Origin of Life
Dr. Richard Bliss, Dr. Gary Parker, Dr. Duane Gish
This workbook for high schoolers through adults compares the two models of
the origin of life--creation and evolution--side by side. Well-written with guided
discovery questions throughout the text. Each chapter contains Lets Take a Look
sections which explore the issues under study using discussion questions to stimulate
logical thinking and examination of the facts. Stop: Interpret the Data sections in each
chapter take a similar approach. Some discussion questions from these sections include:
Do you see any problems in going from polymers to coacervates to living cells?
Explain, and Can viruses be regarded as a link between life and non-life? Why
or why not? Three chapters explore the Two Models for Scientific Investigation
(evolution and creation); The Evolution Model for the Origin of Life; and The Creation
Model for the Origin of Life. Excellent.
Darwins Black Box
Michael J. Behe
Subtitled: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution. Darwinism taught
scientists that as they were able to look more closely at simpler and simpler life forms,
they should expect to find simpler and simpler life processes. What they actually have
found in the past 50 years as technological advances have allowed for more and more
powerful microscopes, is increasing complexity on an enormous, almost unbelievable scale!
They have found biochemical machinery at work exhibiting engineering skill and design
rivaling our best modern efforts. Machinery of any kind always, always implies a designer.
Working on this premise, Behe helps us examine the various biochemical machinery that has
astounded scientists for decades: the design of the eye, the irreducible complexity of the
blood clotting system, and more. A fascinating book which, while technical in spots, was
written for the layman in mind -- Behe does all he can to help non-scientists follow him
on this eye-opening journey. Read the review by Tom Bethell
orginally published in the American
Spectator.
In the Beginning was Information
Dr. Werner Gitt
Dr. Gitt discusses the origin of life from a different viewpoint: that of
information science. The DNA molecule contains more information than all the books in the
world that humankind has ever produced. Where did this information come from, and does
information of that type originate by chance? While explaining information science and the
problem of the evolution of information, he tackles of questions of What is the
origin of information? What are the laws of nature concerning information? How did
language and communication develop? Is artificial intelligence possible? and more.
Information science is one of the pivotal points of the creation/evolution debate right
now, and will remain so in the near future. Written for the general adult reader.
Not By Chance!
Dr. Lee Spetner
Dr. Spetner has an extraordinary ability to present complex issues
in a comprehensible manner. - Rabbi Joseph Elias, The Jewish Observer. It is
certainly the most rational attack on evolution that I have ever read. - Professor
E. Simon, Dept. of Biology, Purdue University. Biologists and geneticists across the
country praise this work as one of the most serious challenges to the modern theory of
evolution. The author presents compelling scientific evidence that life on Earth could not
have arisen by chance. Dr. Spetner examines information and randomness in evolution in a
way that seriously challenges the modern theory of evolution. Not By Chance shows
that: (1) The randomness of mutations -- essential to modern evolution theories -- cannot
account for a buildup of information through evolution. (2) The favorite examples given as
evidence for evolution, such as the evolution of antibiotic resistance of bacteria and the
evolution of quantitative traits by applied geneticists, actually argue against randomness
building up information. The mutations of their examples actually lose information. There
is no known example of a random mutation that adds information to the genome. (3) The book
offers a theory to replace modern evolution theory that postulates nonrandom mutations
triggered by the environment. A great deal of evidence is cited for this new theory, which
can account for large adaptive changes occurring in short spans of time. Technical at
times, but still understandable for the general adult reader. Read the review by Dr. Carl
Wieland orginally published in Creation Ex Nihilo 20(1):5051, December
1997.
The Biotic Message
Dr. Walter James ReMine
Subtitled: Evolution Versus Message Theory. This completely fascinating
book lays out an original theory in the biological origins debate: the biotic message:
that life was designed for survival and also for communicating a message about
where it came from: that life is the product of a single designer, and was intentionally
designed to resist all other explanations of origins. More than any other book on the
origins debate, Dr. ReMines book will help clear out the evolutionary fog
surrounding the issues, and forcefully and deftly shows the slight of hand, the smoke and
mirrors, the, well, illogic (and therefore unscientific, since true science seeks to know
the truth of the nature of the universe) of the evolutionary position, over and over
again. The helpful introduction summarizes each chapter, letting you know what to expect
and what you can skip if you are not a scientist. Each chapter concludes with final
summaries of the main points. Topics covered: Evolution vs. the Biotic Message; Naturalism
vs. Science (this one chapter is worth the price of the book alone!); The Origin of Life;
Survival of the Fittest; Inventive Natural Selection; Darwinian Scenarios; Population
Genetics; Haldane's Dilemma; The Neutral Theory of Evolution; Gradual Intergradations of
Phylogeny; Modern Systematic Methods; Evolutionary Illusions; The Fossil Record;
Punctuated Equilibria; Hierarchy Theory; Nested Hierarchy and Convergence; Embryology;
Vestigial Organs; Molecular Evolution; Illusions of Fossil Sequence; Fossil Sequence and
Message Theory; Biogeography; Cosmological Issues; Discontinuity Systematics; Systematics
and the Origins Debate; Conclusions; finishing with several detailed appendices. The text
is technical, although the author does try (usually successfully) to make things clear to
the layman; for the general adult reader with some rereading and pondering, and the
professional scientist. Read the technical review by Dr. Don Batten
orginally published in Creation Ex Nihilo Technical Journal 11(3):292298,
1997.
